:: Project_100_Wild_Animals ::

Starting in the beginning of 2014, I came up with the idea to see how long time it would take to get a decent photograph of 100 (different..) wild animals… will I be able to finish in 2014..? 🙂 Wifey and Pifa (my dog) do not count… but I reckon a pigeon will count… because… some of the animals will be “lame”, but they are not mine, and they are not living in my house, hence wild enough for this project..! 😀 Let the hunting start..!

After my first post, I have been thinking that it may be to messy to post normally each time I catch a new animal, so I will rather try this, one long continuously post under a separate page… let’s see how that will work out.. 🙂  …just scroll down for more animals.. 🙂

Also, if I find new information or interesting facts about an animal, I will update the list.

At the end of this page, I will keep an updated list over my animals so far.

One of my favorite subject are the squirrels, and at the bottom you’ll find a few pics taken from my balcony to get the project started!

08th of June: A restructure of my project… After thinking about it, and seeing a tendency, a large part of this project will probably contain birds… in my mind, I don’t think I “know of” 100 non-bird animals, so I will number all birds from #50 and upwards… so at the moment all other animals will be below #50… then it will also be easier in the future to make a split… maybe “100 birds” or “100 other animals” are lurking in the future..? ;-P

And while I am at it, why not put insects and other small creatures from #30 and upwards… may result in less sorting later… ;-P

P_100_W_A_#072: Siland (hunn) – Red-breasted merganser – (latin: Mergus serrator)

P_100_W_A_#071: Gråhegre – Grey heron – (latin: Ardea cinerea)

P_100_W_A_#067: Nøttekråke – Spotted nutcracker – (latin: Macrorhynchos (Nucifraga) caryocatactes)

I am not 100% sure which nutcracker this is, the Nucifraga is far more common where I live (although both are not common at all..), but I went with the Macrorhynchos because of its long beak, I hope I am not mistaken…

P_100_W_A_#066: Pilfink – Eurasian tree sparrow – (latin: Passer montanus)

P_100_W_A_#065: Storskarv – Great cormorant – (latin: Phalacrocorax carbo)

P_100_W_A_#064: Skjære – Eurasian magpie – (latin: Pica pica)

I have been trying for a while to catch one of these in flight… they look really nice flying…

P_100_W_A_#063: Gråtrost – Fieldfare – (latin: Turdus pilaris)

P_100_W_A_#062: Musvåk – Common Buzzard – (latin: Buteo buteo)

Yes, yes, I know, very bad photos, but I was so excited to get pictures of this bird, so I register it now, and try to improve the photos later on… 🙂 (freehand with a 500mm from my balcony…)

P_100_W_A_#061: Bokfink – Common Chaffinch – (latin: Fringilla coelebs)

P_100_W_A_#060: Kjernebiter – Hawfinch – (latin: Coccothraustes coccothraustes)

Picture taken from my balcony today (15.05.14), but it was far away, so the picture is heavily cropped. I am in fact not quite sure whether I have correctly identified this bird or not, but I hope this is correct.

I have included uncropped version also.

I encountered this one again, and added two more pictures.

P_100_W_A_#059: Gråmåke – European Herring Gull – (latin: Larus argentatus)

P_100_W_A_#058: Grønnsisik –Eurasian Siskin – (latin: Carduelis spinus)

P_100_W_A_#050: Flaggspett (hann) – Great Spotted Woodpecker (male) – (latin: Dendrocopos major)

A male woodpecker giving a tree outside our balcony some good picks.

P_100_W_A_#040: Hoggorm – Common European viper – (latin: Vipera berus)

Springtime, and sighted this young one hissing in the woods. The only venomous snake in Norway.

P_100_W_A_#039: Buttsnutefrosk – Common frog – (latin: Rana temporaria)

P_100_W_A_#038: Stålorm – Slow worm – (latin: Anguis fragilis)

P_100_W_A_#037: Flaggermus – Bat – (latin: xxx)

These photos are heavily cropped, but I still think they deserve to be here because they were really difficult to capture. They were taken an evening with a 1D4 and a 50mm, and the autofocus (and me..) were really struggling.

P_100_W_A_#036: Edderkopp – spider – (latin: xxx)

I am not sure yet what kind of spider this is, but I found it on my bathroom (outside the window) one afternoon… I will search for it later…

P_100_W_A_#035: Insekt #6 – Bug #6 – (latin: xxx) Description will follow…

P_100_W_A_#034: Insekt #5 – Bug #5 – (latin: xxx) Description will follow…

P_100_W_A_#031: Insekt #2 – Bug #2 – (latin: xxx)

I am not sure yet what kind of insect this is, but I found it on my front door one afternoon… I will search for it later…

P_100_W_A_#030: Stor husedderkopp – Dust spider – (latin: Tegenaria atrica)

Hmm… I was standing on the balcony with my 1D4 and 500mm, looking for birds, then I saw this little fellow on the railing….  I thought it would take me too long time to run up for some macro equipment, so just like an experiment, I took a photo with my cell-phone.

In fact, I have given up using the mobile phone for any kind of photos, it has always let me down and disappointed me, but this turned out rather surprisingly good…

I don’t know what kind of spider it is yet, I don’t have any books, but when I find out I will update the blog.

P_100_W_A_#029: Insekt #7 – Bug #7 – (latin: xxx) Description will follow…

P_100_W_A_#027: Vanlig øyenstikker – Common hawker – (latin: Aeshna juncea)

Incredible enough… I saw this one flying by, and ran for my 1D4 + 500 f4, hence the shallow dof…

P_100_W_A_#024: Sommerfugl #5 – Butterfly #5 – (latin: xxx) Description will follow…

P_100_W_A_#023: Keiserkåpe – Silver-washed fritillary – (latin: Argynnis paphia)

————————————————————————————————————–

P_100_W_A_#007: Mink – American mink – (latin:Neovison vison)

Incredible bad pictures, but I was so happy to see an animal I have seen very few times in my life, so I upload these now and I will try to improve later…

P_100_W_A_#006: Svalbardrein – Svalbard reindeer – (latin: Rangifer tarandus platyrhynchus)

The reindeers on Svalbard are kind of tame, well, they are not tame, but they are not very afraid of humans either, so it is quite easy to see and photograph them. In fact, they are commonly seen walking around in center of Longyearbyen..!

P_100_W_A_#005: Isbjørn – Polar bear – (latin: Ursus maritimus)

I can’t remember for how long I have been dreaming about seeing and photographing polar bears, but on Svalbard, the Easter 2015, I finally got my chance!

P_100_W_A_#004: Rådyr – Roe deer – (latin: Capreolus capreolus)

I took these photos from a window in my office building… I really can’t recall having seen this “moustache” on Bambi’s before, but after a Google search it seems to be the most plausible option… maybe it is part of their winter colorization, I have to research more… 🙂

P_100_W_A_#003: Hare – Mountain hare – (latin: Lepus timidus)

P_100_W_A_#002: Rev -Red fox – (latin: Vulpes vulpes)
